Has your doctor diagnosed you with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NASH), also known as fatty liver disease? Don’t panic — it’s possible to reduce this fat within a few weeks by adopting the right habits. Follow the guide with Florence, a naturopath and micronutrition specialist.
Eliminate liver fat naturally
1 – REDUCE YOUR INTAKE OF FRUCTOSE AND SUGARS
Contrary to popular belief, it’s not fat that causes fatty liver, but sugar! “The buildup of fat in the liver is mainly linked to an excess of fructose and carbohydrates,” explains the naturopath. “To reduce it, you need to cut down on fruit (2 per day), avoid fruit juices, and limit all added sugars.”
What are the worst foods for the liver?
Sodas, cookies, breakfast cereals, and even store-bought prepared meals—which often hide added sugars—should be avoided as much as possible. “Learn to read labels and be cautious if sugar appears among the first ingredients,” warns the specialist.
2 – ADOPT A LOW-GLYCEMIC-INDEX DIET
To limit insulin spikes that promote fat storage in the liver, a low-glycemic-index (GI) diet is ideal. “In practical terms, this means replacing refined foods (white bread, white rice, etc.) with their whole or semi-whole versions, and choosing naturally low-sugar grains like quinoa or buckwheat.”
