A snake bite can be frightening, especially if you’re far from medical help. While the best treatment is always immediate hospital care, knowing the correct first-aid steps can help slow the spread of venom and improve survival until professional help arrives.
1. Stay calm and limit movement
Panic increases heart rate and spreads venom faster through the bloodstream. Try to stay as calm as possible and keep the bitten person still. If possible, have them lie down.
2. Keep the bitten area below heart level
Position the bite lower than the heart. This can help slow the movement of venom through the body.

3. Remove tight items
Quickly remove rings, bracelets, watches, or tight clothing near the bite area. Swelling can happen rapidly and these items may cut off circulation.
4. Clean the wound gently
