Ingredients
For the Cabbage Rolls:
- 1 large green cabbage (about 12 leaves)
- 1 pound (450g) ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork for extra flavor)
- ½ cup cooked rice (white or brown)
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- ¼ cup finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg, lightly beaten (optional, for binding)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Tomato Sauce:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon sugar (to balance acidity)
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 bay leaf
- Salt and pepper, to taste
