Smothered Hamburger Steak with Rich Onion Gravy

1. Prepare the Hamburger Steaks:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, finely chopped onion, egg, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper.
Mix until well combined and form the mixture into 4-5 evenly sized patties.

2. Sear the Steaks:
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Place the patties in the skillet and sear for 3-4 minutes per side until browned. (They don’t need to be fully cooked at this stage.)
Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
3. Make the Onion Gravy:
In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
Add the sliced onions and cook for 8-10 minutes until they are soft and golden brown, stirring occasionally.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir well to coat. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
Gradually whisk in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
Allow the gravy to simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens.
4. Combine and Simmer:
Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, nestling them into the onion gravy.
Spoon some gravy over the patties to keep them moist.
Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 10 minutes or until the hamburger steaks are fully cooked through and tender.
5. Serve:
Plate the hamburger steaks with a generous spoonful of the rich onion gravy.
Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a pop of color and added flavor.
Serve hot over mashed potatoes, white rice, or egg noodles for the ultimate comfort meal.
