The stripes on towels serve not only an organizational purpose, but also a practical one. Many brands use this design to differentiate between different qualities within the same product line.
FOR EXAMPLE:
Some towels have a strip with a different texture, which is usually less absorbent. This prevents excessive wear across the entire surface of the towel and allows the softer areas to retain their absorbency for longer.
In the case of hotel towels, the stripe is commonly used to distinguish between different types of towels, such as hand towels, bath towels, or floor towels.
