A batch of Bouton d’Or brand potato chips (salt and vinegar flavor) sold at Intermarché supermarkets is being recalled. Excessive levels of acrylamide were found in some products from the affected batch. This chemical substance forms in certain foods , particularly during high-temperature cooking or food processing. Most often, plant-based products are affected.
In practical terms, ingesting too much acrylamide poses health risks . The World Health Organization (WHO), based on studies, reiterates that prolonged exposure to this chemical increases the risk of cancer in both humans and animals. Prior to the WHO, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) had already classified acrylamide as a carcinogen since 1994.
