When you return after a nice beach holiday, you don’t just come back with memories but with a vacation tan too. Yes, we all relate!
But have you noticed white patches on your skin, especially on the face, appearing after a beach holiday? Beach vacation or not, they can also appear after being exposed to the sun for a very long time, and they are called white spots.
These sunspots are tiny, flat, white patches that usually appear on sun-exposed areas, such as the arms, legs, and face. They are mostly not itchy and don’t spread all over. They just sit there and make you wonder what actually caused them.
The white spot story
This usually happens when prolonged sun exposure deprives the skin of pigmentation. It’s common knowledge by now that the UV rays of the sun are harmful. Therefore, during this process, melanocytes (the cells that produce melanin) may lose their function in certain areas, leading to white patches. These can appear not only on the face but also on the back and upper arms.
